I saw somewhere that this is kind of misleading. Something about this being a specific process to coat the inside of the weather balloon to protect it from UV when it gets to high altitude? Fact check me but that made sense to me.

Incinerating waste plastic under controlled conditions and high temperatures can reduce that waste to basic molecules, and is far healthier environmentally than most other available
options for disposal.
If that still doesn’t sit right, it’s because the actual right thing to do is never produce this plastic in the first place.
